Ahh, there's the other shoe!

They want me to pay about $10,000 for the service dog.

Oh well, I'll keep looking for another, but the dog from Portland is way out of my price range.

I'm really disappointed.

Profoundly.

Oh, I'm so sorry. :(

well, what's the point in that?!?

[identity profile] henare.livejournal.com 2004-03-17 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
that basically means only really rich people can have service dogs. how many people who need them have this kind of money?!?

pretty weird, if you ask me.

Yeah, seriously. Where do they get off charging that much for a dog? I mean, I know it's specially trained and shit, but hello, it's a DOG. And a generic type of dog at that.

Wait, I thought they told you that this was all cost free? did they possibly change their tune when they found out that Blake was autistic or something?

[identity profile] thedaveytrain.livejournal.com 2004-03-17 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
that really blows...but it just means this wasn't Blake's dog...his will come along...and maybe he'll have my boyfriend with him! LOL buck up babe...and love to the little man!

grrr...hmmm

You'd think they'd have a discount or grant program for single parents. They must. Or someone must, somewhere...

oh i'm so sorry. that totally sucks, Matt. got any ideas about foundations or organizations that can sponsor the dog for Blake? hope *something* works out.

[identity profile] sketchy-starr.livejournal.com 2004-03-18 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
sorry buddy that sux...i really think there should be a sponsership for people who need the dogs and cant afford them as well..

[identity profile] mschaos.livejournal.com 2004-03-18 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
oh that is insane...I know there are a lot of costs for this type of thing, but 10k?

I'm so sorry

[identity profile] cheekytubemouse.livejournal.com 2004-03-18 09:48 am (UTC)(link)
I'm so sorry... *hug*

[identity profile] derekja.livejournal.com 2004-03-18 10:11 am (UTC)(link)
oh no! That's really disappointing!

NO!

[identity profile] sinngrrl.livejournal.com 2004-03-18 01:07 pm (UTC)(link)
The whole idea had me so excited. I remember Blake's love of the beautiful dogs (especially silly Grace!). I went to the website and read stories of families with children with Autism and an NSD dog... tears are still flowing. I was so excited for you and Blake.

I am so disappointed for you both to have a totally impossible $10K price tag attached to what would truly be an amazing gift!

Hopefully, the disappointment will be replaced, in time, with another dog that is meant to be.

Many blessings and much love to you both.

Well

It takes about two years to train one of them, and that is what I recall my mom-in-law paying to sponsor. I didn't know that folks on the other end had to pony up the same amount though. Yikes, Matt.
