Talking Heads - Speaking in Tongues
Listened to this one on repeat in my walkman my freshman year in high school. Still love every bit of it.
The Who - Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy
I listened to this endlessly the summer before junior high as I was riding my bicycle to a friends house.
Consolidated - Play more music
Oh how this reminds me of my ACT UP days.
Bob Mould - Black Sheets of Rain
This music seems to be a very personal catharsis salve for me. I tend to return to this when I'm feeling particularly raw.
REM - reckoning
My brother started me listening to REM by loaning me an EP of their stuff in the early 80s. I had this cassette (!) in high school and listened to it endlessly. Very good for the broody angsty kid.
Boy George - Cheapness and Beauty
I think my friend Marlene turned me onto this one. It has to be one of the most fierce out queer collections of all time. Oh how I love Boy George.
Everything But the Girl - The Language of Life
I started listening to them in 1996. I find their stuff really soothing. It's good heartbreak music.
Dead Can Dance - A passage in Time
Blake listens to this every night as he is falling asleep and when he wakes up in the night I have to put it on again to help him fall back to sleep.
