Yesterday I had the final presentation in my principal licensure program. Finally done with all of the work after 18 months. I started this program right after I finished my doctorate, because I didn't go to an NJ school, so my doctorate didn't come with administrative licensure. I get my test results from the Principals test tomorrow, as long as I've passed that I'll have a principal's license soon. That just gives me more options for work in NJ, which is a good thing. It's not going to get any cheaper to live in suburban NYC, and the services are way too good for B to ever leave, so trying to make the best of it.

So much has happened since that last post, wow. I will give a run-through soon, but Blake and I are in NJ, so life is definitely not a crisis.

I have my first job as a school administrator instead of teaching. I'm one day away from being done with my principal licensure program and ready to not have extra school or work after work for a while.

Looking to move away from Meta products. Hopefully we can resurrect some sense of community here.

Love from me and the Dude!

What do I need to know about using this thing?

Today is one of those days. I want to quit my job. Well, more precisely I want to quit my job because I've found something else.

Sigh.

So it's looking less and less likely that a teaching job will be found this year.

I started looking into the Masters Entry Program in Nursing at UCSF. Looks like a 12 month program to get an RN, then you can take a year, no classes, just working as a nurse, get some experience, and then go back for 2 years while working to get your Nurse Practitioner qualification.

I think this seems like a good fit. I certainly have the science background, this is the other thing I was considering when I went to Davis to do the teaching thing, and after 1 year of school (during which year I'm likely to be underemployed or unemployed) my salary would double from what I made in NC as a teacher.

I'm thinking that my experience as a network monkey, and an educator might be able to, in the future, turn this into something good. Some kind of medical-IT-training type thing.

Does anyone have any information about this program, or other programs like it that might be a good fit?

Ideas, thoughts, feedback, advice, random comments?

Comments screened so you can be frank. It's OK, I'm a big kid, I can take it.

I have a student whose family is so poor when I asked her what she wanted for Christmas she said, "Shoes." Can anyone help me? She's a twin, she has sickle cell, and her single mom is trying to raise 3 kids on her own. I want to take all 3 kids out and get them a pair of shoes, a pair of jeans and a shirt, gloves, a hat and something to listen to music on. Who's in?

This is reposted for friends of mine whose 85 year old aunt is being evicted from her home after her partner died by partner's daughter who does not approve of their "Lifestyle."

This is in Seal Beach in Southern California. Does anyone know of any resources which might be helpful?

from [livejournal.com profile] sushispook and [livejournal.com profile] podle

So - last night I got a somewhat distressed call from my Mom. Her sister's (my favorite aunt) partner of 14 years died on Thursday morning. My aunt Pat and her partner, B, were not much out of the closet - they found each other in their, I guess, twilight years and had a wonderful and loving relationship. Tragically, they never really formalized their relationship legally, and all their property is in B's name. B's daughter does not recognize their relationship at all and has already begun staking claim to her mother's property. I am just hearstick over this. My Aunt Pat is an amazing woman who I have loved and admired my whole life. She's 85 and blind for crying out loud. I am not completely clear on the details but it seems that my cousins are doing absolutely nothing so far to support her because they didn't approve of the relationship.

I don't particularly care if any of these people understand or condone homosexuality - but by all that is holy - where is their compassion? My aunt is grieving, her partner's daughter is already staying in her home and telling her, "There are rules." regarding how long she can be there? Pat can't even make a phone call to discuss this with my Mom unless the daughter leaves the house!

If any of you have ideas for someone who can provide legal assistance or counseling to my Aunt I would greatly appreciate it. She's in Seal Beach (Southern California).

Some friends of mine are looking to produce an event for trans guys and the guys who're into them. Not for the super -PC easily offended, target market is more those who live as/among gay men and would like to have a club night for trans guys and their friends.

"We know a few FTMs in the Bay Area and they feel disconnected from the community because of the ultra-PC attitude that some have about it. This is the group we are trying to attract, so we need to be a little un-PC in our marketing and be a little offensive without being too offensive."

Their first thing we need is a name. Some folks have really liked "Taco Truck" as a play on masculinity with a vagina.

The last thing we want is someone going on a rant in the BAR about someone being insensitive blah blah blah.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Anyone want to help?
