Dec. 26th, 2004 08:46 amWe had a lovely day yesterday, mostly just being lazy around the house enjoying all of the cool stuff.
Blake got a crate full of percussion instruments, and this cool thing that plays music when you move from Hava. He got a very cute Animal muppet handpuppet from Zak, and a huge bunch of stuff from his Papa Bear and Stephanie.
The Lite Brite from Jyllian, James and Emily is super extra popular. In fact, I have to confess that everyone in the house played with it for a bit, all of the grownups were equally as captivated. It was as fun as I remember it being when I was a kid, and now it's in a cube shape, so more than one kid (of whatever age) can play with it at the same time. The lava lamp is also quite popular.
I got the LOTR ROTK extended DVD set from Patrick, and would love to be able to lock myself in my room for two days to watch the whole thing. I'll just have to wait for a certain someone to return from afar first, though. Got a coupld of books, and some music as well. I'm quite blessed, really, even if this isn't really my holiday.
Blake and I are going swimming in a couple of hours. Hopefully I will succeed in getting the small fry some exercise to help even out his mood for the rest of the day. Hopefully I will be able to work out some of the aches that seem to have crept in to my old frame with the colder weather.
Talked to my mom, and she and my dad are both well. They're buying a new house in Florida, and they close on it next week. they're still going to keep the apartment or whatever they got in Providence so my dad has a place close to his office, but they're going to sell the condo they're staying in in Coral Gables, and once that sells, they're going to move into the new place. It's always odd for me to listen to her stories about her new this or their purchase of that. It's so far removed from my experience, and what I assume will be my life experience that it has taken a long time for me to be able to listen and not project my bitterness about my downwardly mobile life choices onto her happiness. I'm just glad they're well, and happy. They will always be who they are, and that's quite different from who I've chosen to be. I've made a value judgment and decided to be more concerned with the quality of interaction I have with someone and the content of people's character rather than the quality of their clothing or content of their stock portfolios. Doesn't leave much room for commonality between us as adults, but somehow we manage to keep in touch and still care about one another. They continue to be as supportive of me and of Blake as they can. They even sent me this weird generic holiday card that said all of this Hallmark-gushy stuff about what a wonderful son I am. Amazing how things change.
Strange to have this big surge of gratitude and reflection during the silly season of greed and consumerism. Hope that those of you who've managed to read this far are warm, well-fed and manage to find some peace and serenity in your busy modern life. I'm going to go watch Wiggly Wiggly Christmas for the umpteenth time with Blake.
