The doctor told me to take advil and stretch.

She also told me that it's probably due to my weight.

Really? I'm fat and I should take advil? Brilliant. So glad I went in.

Ugh. On a related note, I decided that my syphilitic chancre was an ingrown hair, and that I was having STD hypochondria.

That is pretty much what I figured they would say. Sorry honey. Please try seeing a chiropractor. It really does help.

ugh. i'm so sorry. the only thing that has helped my back in terms of over the counter meds has been doans extra strength back . Works wonders for me, although it sounds more like nerve than muscle.

It might be worth a try. xoxo

Have you tried acupuncture? It's extremely effective against sciatica and other nerve pain stuff. At the very least it'll relieve some of the owies.

I had the same symptoms many years ago and the only thing that helped me was learning some exercises thru a physical therapist which I did every morn without fail and swimming for one hour seven days a week. That of course was during the days of being a full time mom and having no job so time was not a problem.
I never did see a chiripractor but that was a definite option.

That's their stock answer--"It's because of your weight." I had a doctor once who almost cried when my bloods came back perfectly normal--low cholesterol, normal sugar, everything perfect. He was sure I had a million things wrong because I was overweight, and was tangibly disappointed that I was healthy.

Needless to say, he's no longer my doctor.

Docs just love saying that. I went through a year of being told that. (mind you, this was after a garage door dropped on my head). I finally got someone to listen to me, and I had (and still have) 4 bulging discs. It seems that they can never admit they are wrong. I am glad to see you are feeling a bit better.

Oh good Lord. Doctors can suck my dick. My doctor [who in general is pretty cool and is fully responsible for getting us infertility coverage without disclosing my partner's trans status to the insurance company (bless her heart)] also tells me to lose weight every time I complain of back or knee pain. Hello?! I know lots of fat people who don't have sciatica. I know losing weight definitely CAN help with back pain quite a lot... But it's not the be-all and end-all. Though of course you know this already.

We should save ourself the $$$ and just remind all our friends who are having pain issues or health problems that whatever is wrong, there's nothing a little weight loss and advil can't fix. And medicinal marijuana, and sometimes a little whiskey. Also occasionally amputation.

A mate here recently had severe sciatica that needed heavy duty pain killers and rest to try and fix. She ended up getting acupuncture, and within a week got mobile again. She's a big girl and has had this before and got told her weight was contributing to the recurring problem. Given how active she is (a lot), it wouldn't surprise me that sudden shifts could cause momentum to put something out. The damn thing is, if she was sitting around doing nothing, she'd prolly be ok, but that is so not her.
